Administration Instructions
In School Survey Administration
The first task will be to determine who is to be surveyed. Will it be the entire school, a single grade level, or a selected number of classes. Once you have made that decision you must develop a plan to administer the survey. If it is the entire school or individual grade level(s), determine what class every student has (i.e. English or social studies) and ask the department chair permission to speak with the members of the department about the Survey and its administration.
If the survey is being taken by students from one or more teachers’ classes it will be an easy task, just speak with them. If you select a few classes, do these classes represent a cross section of the school? If not, news releases should be modified to read physics students or honors government students as the survey participants.
Students visit www.TheGreatAmericanEnergyDebate.org and select the Take Energy Survey link. Students enter the seven digit school code and they are ready to start. The website will guide participants each step of the way using an engaging approach.
The school TGAED leaders can generate hundreds of reports using your school code and selecting numerous filters to generate very general or specialized reports.
After students have completed the Survey they can particpate in a follow up activity called The Energy Focus Group. In this activity students discuss each Survey question and listen to the opinions of their peers. Click here for more information about The Energy Focus Group.
Outside School Survey Administration
If using class time to take the survey is an issue, then have
students take the survey at home or other location.
A science or
social studies teacher would assign the Survey for homework.
The Survey printout would be the homework assignment.
Teachers may provide students several days to complete the survey to
insure all have completed the assignment.
